In the new normal, the PSSC offers an online course that aims to help social science faculty, researchers, and students do research work using new approaches, methods, and tools made available by the digital age, particularly online surveys. The course will also use KoboToolbox, a free and open-source platform for the collection, management, and visualization of data.

At the end of the course, participants will be able to:

  • Articulate fundamental concepts of online survey as a data collection tool
  • Assess the effectiveness of online survey as a tool for data collection
  • Design and develop a questionnaire for online survey
  • Apply different KoboToolbox features as is appropriate in designing and deploying an online survey questionnaire
  • Assess the effectiveness of KoboToolbox as a platform for designing, deploying, and managing an online survey

The Philippine Social Science Council (PSSC), through its Social Science Ethics Review Board (SSERB), offers this training workshop to help researchers understand and apply existing ethics standards and codes in social science research and other research involving human participants (e.g., educational research, business/industry research). The overall objective of the training workshop is to develop in the participants a full appreciation of the ethics principles in social science research, and to apply these in the planning, implementation, and publication of research.

At the end of the course, participants will be able to:

  • Expound on the ethical principles that guide social science research;
  • Identify ethics issues in different phases of a research project;
  • Know how to get informed consent and maintain confidentiality and anonymity at different stages of the research process; 
  • Identify ways of maintaining research integrity throughout all the phases of human-participant research;
  • Learn how to design research for beneļ¬cence, social justice, and inclusivity; and
  • Apply ethical principles and standards in the review and conduct of research.
